I just sent this email to the Minister of Foreign Affairs & to our MP for ESS riding.

If you feel moved to do so, would you also write to them?

Dear Ministers

I am deeply concerned about the dire plight of Cuban people. We have been friends and allies since January 8, 1959, when Fidel Castro entered Havana. As you may be aware, Canadian officials supported Mr Castro in the transition administration.

In the decades since, the Cuban people have welcomed Canadian tourists as guests. We provided approximately 10 per cent of their GDP. We have partnered in developing their mining sector.

Therefore, in my opinion, it is our obligation to support the Cuban people in their current time of need.

Further to our obligation, we should be mindful that the Chinese are supplying solar equipment and that both the Russians and the Mexicans are supplying fuel. The Cuban people will long remember who stood with them in their dark hour.

Regards

George Klima, Victoria
