September arrives with a soft, shifting light,
As sun-warmed afternoons give way to night.
With shorter hours and cooler, crisper days,
I find myself re-adjusting my ways.
A subtle shift begins to stir my mood,
As comfort calls me toward a warmer food.

My apartment aroma of apples and spice,
Brings me a spirit of everything nice.
Through the pines and the chestnuts, the quick squirrels tread,
Watched closely by my cat, Caleb, from his warm window bed.
They gather their harvest of each acorn and seed,
While I gather each day, comfort for every need.
