Reginald “Reg” McQuaid was born on July 9, 1935 in Richmond, Prince Edward Island and passed away on June 2, 2023 in Toronto, ON, at the age of 87 years.

Reg is survived and missed by his loving wife Joan O’Laney, daughter Kate, five sisters, two brothers, and eighteen nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Herb and Mary (MacAulay) McQuaid, and by two brothers Leo and Steve.

He will be forever remembered, loved, and deeply missed by all of his family, friends, and many communities, particularly Bathurst Street United Church. Reg was ordained as priest in 1959 in Rome. As a member of the Holy Cross congregation, he served as a missionary in India until 1971. After leaving the priesthood, Reg continued to work internationally and locally for social justice, particularly for sugar workers.
Reg’s life will always inspire those who loved him to be patient, faithful, and work for justice. He travelled the world and loved to come home to PEI sunsets.

The Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, June 10 at 11 a.m. from Bathurst United Church (Trinity-St. Paul’s United Church) 427 Bloor St. W., Toronto. Burial was followed at Prospect Cemetery (1450 St. Clair Ave. W.). If desired, donations in memory of Reg McQuaid may be made to The Stop Community Food Centre.
