The Yamuremye family of Burundi, currently in a refugee camp in adjacent Rwanda and sponsored by the Central Africa Refugee Association (CARA) in Victoria,  has cleared three important hurdles in its sponsorship process. Arrival in Canada can be expected within the next calendar year.
The CARA application was endorsed by the Anglican Diocese on Vancouver Island. This required fund raising of 50 per cent of the required 30,000 dollars that their care in the first year in Victoria is expected to costs. The federal government quickly accepted the Anglican sponsorship under their Sponsorship Agreement Holder status with the national government. On November 20 the family were interviewed at the Canadian consulate for their region in Africa.

The interview is reported to have gone very well. Now it is the responsibility of CARA to finalize the fund raising process and organize itself to receive and support the family for at least a full year, including housing, cultural adaptation, psychological counselling and securing gainful employment.
