The Editor,
Isabella Gagnon who I have known and admired for the past 37 years has passed away.
We met when we were farmers in Cedar and also found a common interest as we were Catholic and both of us had nine children. We discovered that our main interest as members of the church was Social Justice. However Isabella took her interest into the center of the action when she undertook the running of the 7 to 10 club in St Peter’s church basement in Nanaimo. This she did with a certain expertise and trust in her God. No one else could have done the job better.

We met when we were farmers in Cedar and also found a common interest as we were Catholic and both of us had nine children. We discovered that our main interest as members of the church was Social Justice. However Isabella took her interest into the center of the action when she undertook the running of the 7 to 10 club in St Peter’s church basement in Nanaimo. This she did with a certain expertise and trust in her God. No one else could have done the job better.
Her accomplishments were remarkable. She shared a common similarity with other Catholic workers in the field of social justice, opposition from the those who run the institution. Along the way it also became a well known battle in Nanaimo reported by the local and provincial press, between the interests of the poor of Nanaimo and the powers that run St Peter’s.
She managed this task without bitterness and succeeded for many years to keep it running in spite of all the difficulties she encounter along the way. For as long as she could she cared for the poor in Nanaimo. She will be missed.
Her funeral was held at St Peter’s on July 20, 2013.
