Sister Doreen Trautman, SSA

Sister Doreen Trautman, SSA was born on July 16, 1932, in Camrose Alberta, and died peacefully at Mount St. Mary Hospital on September 28, 2025. Doreen was the second child of Leonard and Victoria (Hewko) Trautman.
Doreen graduated from St. Ann’s Academy, New Westminster, BC in 1950 and entered the Sisters of St. Ann. She professed her vows on August 6, 1952.
She received her Teaching Certificate from St. Joseph Teachers College in Montreal, her BA from Seattle University, an MA in Counselling from University of Oregon and an MA in Spirituality from Creighton University.
Doreen taught in various schools throughout BC for many years and spent time as the Elementary Supervisor for Vancouver Catholic Schools before becoming the Principal of Immaculate Conception School in Vancouver.
Doreen served on the leadership team of the Sisters of St. Ann. In 1979, Doreen, along with others, was one of the founding members of Providence Farm in Duncan, BC, where she spent three years ministering with that community. In 1982, Doreen transferred to the Poor Clare Community in Duncan and served in various capacities including Abbess.
During her forty years in the community, Doreen ministered as Spiritual Director and Counsellor. She expressed her creativity in singing, gardening and in making beautiful photo cards and candles. When the Poor Clare Community was closed in 2022, Doreen transferred back to the Sisters of St. Ann and pronounced her vows as a Sister of St. Ann on June 24, 2022.
Predeceased by her brother Al and nephew Michael, Doreen is survived by her brother Beverley (Gail) their children Kim (Ernie) Bart (Elvita) Barrie, John Paul (Holly), Al’s children Semone and Marc, several grand nieces, and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Church, 4049 Gordon Head Road, Victoria BC. Interment at Ross Bay Cemetery.
