Service Made Me Feel I Knew Her

On March 7, 2025 I attended Dorothy Bob’s (In religion: Sister Mary Juan Diego) Memorial Service. Although I didn’t know Dorothy, I feel I do. It was one of the most amazing services I have ever been to. Wow! The celebration of Dorothy Bob’s life (September 4, 1932- February 24, 2025) was full of powerful energy, emotions, beauty and peace.

Her family included their Indigenous culture heritage with drumming and singing upon entrance. Both her family and the Sisters of St. Ann spoke of memories and affection that many times sent chills of God’s presence through me. The beauty of culture combined with spirituality was remarkable.

When I commented on the vibrant daffodils, I was quickly told it was Dorothy’s favorite flower. Her best loved colour which, was pink was also worn by those who honoured her memory.

Dorothy’s embracing of “look, listen, learn and love” was seen in the room with us, in those who she spent time with. Monsignor Michael Lapierre’s powerful homily was on the Beattitudes which gave me another chill as he closed with blessed are you.
