Rental Units for Refugees Needed

Volume 30  Issue 10, 11 & 12 | Posted: January 2, 2017

In February 2016, the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) was awarded the Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP), through Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This program assists in the resettlement of Government Assisted Refugees (GAR) upon landing in Victoria. We are in charge of welcoming this class of refugees at the airport and placing them in permanent housing. GARs are financially supported by IRCC for 12 months upon landing in Canada.
We have been able to house over 200 refugees since the program launch thanks to all the support we have received. We have also learned that we cannot do it without help from the community as Victoria's housing market is exceptionally challenging due to low vacancy rates and high rental costs.

ICA needs your support! ICA expects another 127 refugees by the end of 2016 as mandated by the federal government. We are reaching out to multi faith groups and related community members that may want to help support refugees by offering potential resources for housing.
We are looking for multiple rental units to house single persons to families of 8 who are receiving housing allowance. We welcome any resources including shared accommodations, 1, 2, 3 bedroom apartments or houses to rent so we can assist these newcomers start their life in Canada.
