Dear Folks,
I did not mean to throw cold water on perhaps a moment of real courage of the Anglican Primate of Washington in her speaking ‘truth to power in Washington recently.
However, as it has with many, this situation in Palestine has made me rethink many many fundamental beliefs in very unsettling ways … about religion, about the Church, about the Media, about the US, about the Scripture/Psalms and the word ‘Israel’ and so on … I have had a brief exchange months ago on this matter as the genocide was in its early stages …and in that exchange he gave me a reference to “The Maple” a Canadian online publication of which I knew nothing … (does anyone know about this publication?) It carried this story not long ago which had a very Canadian focus, which I believe to be important for us:
https://www.readthemaple.com/laith-marouf-the-israel-lobby-and-anti-racism-funding/ … this is very tricky stuff but since I’ve been listening hard to the Palestinian viewpoint because of this ‘War and genocide’
I’ve found my conviction of the need for ‘political analysis’ accompanying ‘religious devotion to be mounting or deepening. Why, because otherwise, I’m afraid, our religious sensibilities will be manipulated and we may very well succumb to a treacherous self-deception … this story, I sense, tries to capture just how this can happen or is actually happening in these times of ours …
