GUBBELS, Paul Jerome, passed away on December 25, 2024 due to an accidental fall at home. He was born on August 20, 1965 to Peter and Milla in North Vancouver. Paul grew up in Victoria enjoying many sports, especially baseball. He earned a degree in psychology from the University of Victoria.
Paul spent many years as a community support worker caring for the people at Jedburgh House. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved lake fishing in the Cariboo. He loved classic comedy, reading Twain, Steinbeck and other novelists, quoting famous poets, especially e.e.. cummings, and watching the Blue Jays and the Canadiens.
Predeceased by his mother, Milla, in 2009, Paul will be greatly missed by his father, Peter, brother Peter (Rachael), sister Lydia (Jon), his nieces Madeleine (Rob), Rebekah (Dave), Claire (Nick), Emma, Sarah, and Lauren, many grand-nieces and nephews, as well as many other extended family members.
The Mass of the Resurrection was held on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Church, 2060 Haultain Street, Victoria at 12:10pm with the eulogy at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to The Soup Kitchen (thesoupkitchen.ca) at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Victoria.
