Marnie Butler. A friend, a woman who wore coats of many colours, loyal and loving to her friends and those in need.
A woman of conviction with high ideals and deep sense of right and wrong. She did not waver on her faith beliefs.
Yes, I knew Marnie Butler. She was a very fine person. We met in the mid- seventies through mutual friends. Many dinner parties, convivial conversation, and lots of laughter.
Over the years I saw Marnie in different situations. Often when walking in our neighbourhoods, Marnie would call out to me from her new home as I passed by. We would catch up with our lives! She would always, when I was in Graduate School, recall a mutual friend that rescued her daughter from being run over by a car. She never forgot that event.
One memorable event for me was when Marnie and Patrick Jamieson travelled to St. Peters, Quamichan, for my fathers funeral. They did not know my father but that is what they did. Thinking of others.
I also witnessed Marnie seeking her creative role in life. Just words did not do it for Marnie. She truly was a person of action.
I know there are folks that knew her better. They are the lucky ones. But she was friend that I knew best when she was only 24 or 25. Full of life, compassionate and just plain fun to be around.
