All of this is far away
in a book of history.
We’re not really there.
We’ve read this, seen the film.
Our happiness is not to be there,
a small happiness
The size of a cup of coffee.
It’s all we want now.

Yet in the city where I live,
a small city by a river
filled with water
under a sky that is blue
and with clouds that are white
where the school children play games
like the story called history
they memorize for the exam and forget
a day later running to play,
even here
I’ve heard a rumour on the wind.
