River Song

Swift water winds and flows
downriver to the lowlands.
Round and round the slippery rocks
the sputter of spume circles,
bubbles with widening windows of light
stretched from rubbery rainbows
spin and turn in the soapy foam,
loamy, creamy, and deep.

The song of the river winds on forever;
a lonely song throughout the seasons.
The vibrant rustle of grieving leaves
gives way to days of icicle calm
when twigs drop in a metronome;
drip heavy silence in the snow.
The tumbling wind of early spring;
the sibilant sound of bulrush weeds.
The downward flow of water rush
pours summer music through the hills.

The song of the river is like an echo;

Swift water winds and flows
downriver to the lowlands.
Round and round the slippery rocks
the sputter of spume circles,
bubbles with widening windows of light
stretched from rubbery rainbows
spin and turn in the soapy foam,
loamy, creamy, and deep.

The song of the river winds on forever;
a lonely song throughout the seasons.
The vibrant rustle of grieving leaves
gives way to days of icicle calm
when twigs drop in a metronome;
drip heavy silence in the snow.
The tumbling wind of early spring;
the sibilant sound of bulrush weeds.
The downward flow of water rush
pours summer music through the hills.

The song of the river is like an echo;
a timeless song that cannot be stilled –
the flush flow of the falling whispers;
drum beat of the water waves.
The song of the river goes on forever
while the forest breathes and grows.
