Francis the Pope Acknowledges Remi the Council Father

Volume 28  Issue 7, 8 & 9 | Posted: September 19, 2014

April 27, 2014 Bishop Remi De Roo visited Rome to witness the canonization of Popes John XXII and John Paul II. At the close of the event he was inadvertently introduced to the new Pope Francis who immediately recognized his uniqueness as a Father of the Second Vatican Council, one of few still alive. In the above photos the Pope culminated the introduction by kissing the Council Father ring that all those who participated in Vatican II were given at the time. Much could be made of his reverential acknowledgement of the importance of the Council, which is Bishop De Roo’s abiding passion.
